Persian numbers: English and Arabic equivalents
Persian numbers, also called Farsi numbers, use the same
decimal values as English digits. The characters change,
but the numerical value stays the same.
| English | Persian / Farsi | Arabic |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | ۰ | ٠ |
| 1 | ۱ | ١ |
| 2 | ۲ | ٢ |
| 3 | ۳ | ٣ |
| 4 | ۴ | ٤ |
| 5 | ۵ | ٥ |
| 6 | ۶ | ٦ |
| 7 | ۷ | ٧ |
| 8 | ۸ | ٨ |
| 9 | ۹ | ٩ |
Are Persian and Arabic digits the same?
They represent the same values but use different Unicode
characters. Compare Persian ۴۵۶ with Arabic
٤٥٦: both mean 456.
Does changing digits change a date?
No. For example, ۱۴۰۵/۰۷/۰۸ becomes
1405/07/08. This changes the digits only;
it does not convert a Solar Hijri date to the Gregorian calendar.
Does this convert numbers into words?
No. Digit conversion changes ۹۸۷۶۵ to
98765. Writing a number in words is a separate task.
After converting data for a form or spreadsheet, check its
decimal and thousands separators. Changing digit characters
does not necessarily change punctuation or number formatting.
