World Blood Donor Day

World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on June 14, and it’s one of those global health days that doesn’t really get as much attention as it should. It was set up to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood and to thank voluntary donors who basically keep healthcare systems running in the background. Hospitals rely on regular donations for surgeries, emergencies, and long-term treatments, yet many people only think about it when they or someone close needs it. The date also marks the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the scientist who discovered blood groups, which made modern transfusions possible. Over the years the campaign has grown, but in many places the need for consistent donors is still higher than the actual supply.
