Muharram Countdown

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar and one of the four sacred months in Islam. It holds profound historical and spiritual significance, most notably due to the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH (680 CE), where Husayn ibn Ali was martyred in Karbala on the 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura. This event became a lasting symbol of resistance against oppression and the pursuit of justice. During Muharram, especially in its first ten days, Muslims—particularly Shia communities—commemorate this sacrifice through mourning gatherings and reflections on values such as courage, dignity, and social responsibility.
